The Law of Attraction/Laws of the Universe part 3

Newton’s Third Law of Motion dictates that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Some schools of thought hold the same notion in relation to our attractions. We get, they say, exactly what we put out there. In other words, the type of energy or vibe we project is exactly what we get in return. Again, here is the term reciprocity.

Our projected vibe isn’t always obvious--to our eye, anyway. We may think we have an in-it-to-win-it attitude, only to live the same “man-oh-man” nightmares over and over again. Or despite our irresistible charm, looks or wit, people resist us like the opposite end of a magnet. The energy we project is invisible to us, but others seem to pick it up like a natural force.

They can tell if we are insecure despite our best efforts in hiding it. They can see the desperation in our eyes with the power of a powerful x-ray vision. They can also see our happiness and confidence gleaming from a bar away. Ever notice how when you’re feeling good, others seem to make eye contact?

Most of us fail to realize, however, that each of us has complete control over the forces surrounding our attractions. We have the power to change others' reactions towards us by using Newton’s Third Law and changing our own actions. I know that understanding Newton’s law is much easier than putting it into practice. The good news is that it’s not impossible. A change in our attitude and approach can change what we get back in return.

The Law of Attraction principle essentially states that good thoughts and actions return good things to the doer while bad thoughts and bad actions bring more negativity and misery. This is an example of duality thinking not of Universal Oneness thinking.

Many people believe that the Law of Attraction works by aligning “God or the Universe” with our wishes. We are all made of energy and our energy operates at different frequencies. We can change our frequency of energy with positive thoughts, especially gratitude for what we already have.

By using grateful, positive feelings and by focusing on our dreams (rather than our frustrations), we can change the frequency of our energy and the law of attraction brings positive things (things of that frequency) into our lives. What we attract depends on where and how we focus our attention, but we must believe that it’s already ours, or soon will be.

The Traditionally Scientific Explanation If you’re one who needs things to be a little easier to prove, there is also a different explanation for how the law of attraction works. By focusing on attaining a new reality and by believing it is possible, we tend to take more risks, notice more opportunities, and open ourselves up to new possibilities.

Conversely, when we don’t believe that something is in the realm of possibilities for us, we tend to let opportunities pass by unnoticed. When we believe we don’t deserve good things, we behave in ways that sabotage our chances at happiness. By changing our self talk and feelings about life, we reverse the negative patterns in our lives and create more positive, productive and healthy ones. One good thing leads to another, and the direction of a life can shift from a downward spiral to an upward ascent.

One problem I have with the book The Secret, and with some people's interpretation of the Law of Attraction, is that it's singularly the belief we hold that good things will come to us that will bring us all that we desire, without any sort of action behind that belief. Studies on optimists show that it is the optimistic viewpoint that drives the proactive behaviors that in turn bring optimists such great results in their lives. Optimists don't receive their benefits from their attitudes alone--it's the behavior the attitudes inspire that creates real change.

More importantly, critics of The Secret and other books about the Law of Attraction point out the very real concern that people may start to blame themselves for negative events that are outside their control, such as accidents and injuries, layoffs due to the financial crisis, or major illnesses.

My belief is that we can't always control our circumstances (everything is NOT all about us!) but we can control our responses to them. In this vein, the Law of Attraction can provide the optimism and proactive attitude that's associated with resilience in difficult situations, but must not be used as a tool of self-blame. Our responses to the challenges we face can make us stronger in the end, and the Law of Attraction can be used for that end, but should not be applied negatively, or it can be more destructive than helpful.

So with enlightenment and knowledge the laws and rules change. Everything comes, slowly first and then at an accelerated pace as we step forward into our missions. There are certain laws that govern the Universe. Some call them the “Universal Laws” or “Laws of Truth” but they are in place as a form of checks and balances to try to naturally keep our reality centered. These laws can work for or against us depending on what position we have placed ourselves in context with the higher dimensions of our existence.

Every person has chosen a position or placement of time and space to exist in. Why we are where we are is because of our experiences and eventual choices that progress us towards the future. Sometimes the laws are called “Moral Principles” and are based on our discernment of good and evil. Not that something is actually good or evil.

The Laws of the Universe are here to help us. The moral laws are the understanding of what actions do and do not lead us into in our life. Because good and evil are discovered and used, not created, the principles and laws are formulated by us to aid us in all aspects of growth be it physical or spiritual.

The level of joyousness is entirely controlled by the individual. The manner in which we live, die and then what we do after that is individual. Cosmic Laws are powerful energies of unknown quantity perceived by humans through direct observation, meditation/contemplation or revelation.

There are a few things to note about Cosmic or Universal laws:

1.       Energy is the basis of all existence and is knowing of all things in the universe.

2.       Energy includes aspects or locations that are experiencing different levels or dimensions of consciousness.

3.       All portions of consciousness are in continuous interaction in the oneness of energy.

4.       The "soul" is a portion that chooses to experience the density of human embodiment.

5.       Soul consciousness often encounters difficulty in shifting the human intellect from its primary focus on the five survival senses of physical life in order to integrate its wisdom.

6.       Once integrated by the soul, human consciousness recognizes how energy in the
form of Cosmic Laws works to create "Heaven on Earth".

Let’s get back to how people think about the Law of Attraction. Let’s take a person who was in a really bad car accident. This person works on being positive and bringing good things into their life. All of a sudden this terrible thing happens and they begin to wonder what they did to deserve this since “everything happens for a reason” and we create what we think.

The laws of attraction can indeed bring wonderful benefits to one's life. When a person is beginning to understand the concept it is important to change the way you perceive things. So focusing on what you want in life (instead of what you don't want) can help you clarify goals and go after them, working to develop the kind of life that can bring less stress.

Paying attention to what you want in life can also help you to realize what's not working in your life, so you can change things. Also by focusing on what you want and believing that you will get it can help you notice opportunities that may otherwise escape your attention, can inspire you to take action toward what you want, and can help you to develop a world view characterized by greater levels of optimism.

While some believers in the laws of attraction do indeed believe that every event we find in our lives--even those that appear to be outside of our control--have been brought by our habitual thought patterns, many people (like me) see that this belief can actually be destructive to people's psychological health and take a more moderate view.

There is absolutely no evidence that events that appear outside of our control are actually caused by thoughts we have, which we haven't acted on and the belief that we are responsible for any negative event that happens to us can add tremendous additional stress to a situation that's already stressful, such as a serious illness, unforeseen financial crisis (like what many, many people are experiencing right now), or freak accident.

A different philosophy I would recommend is to use the laws of attraction to better any situation you find yourself in, but to accept that certain negative events in life are outside of our control. Therapists present the view that we can't always choose the circumstances we face, but we can control our response to them, and that often makes all the difference.

Another thing to remember with the laws of attraction is that we tend to get what we focus on the most, so it's important to focus on what we want and not what we don't want. Remembering to focus on what we want to see happen in our lives can help stave off rumination and negative thought patterns and bring more benefits.

Next we will discuss intuition and attention.
