Ki or vital energy flows through all living things
and it is the original energy that created life.
This energy is the life force itself and has as many
names as there are civilizations. It is created in
our bodies at conception when our father's (yang)
and mother's (yin) energies combine and become one.
This energy circulates in our bodies through a
network of energy channels that carries it to every
cell and organ to keep them functioning properly.
However when the energy becomes blocked, the organs
begin to suffer from a shortage of energy, which
eventually leads to disease.
Meridian Theory According to
Chinese medicine, the Ki circulates along a system
of conduits, the principal ones being the meridians
or channels as well as through the blood. This Ki is
the vital energy that gives life to all living
matter. In a way, the Ki conduits resemble those of
the vascular or nervous system, since each has a
network of main channels and minor capillaries.
There are twelve principal bilateral channels of Ki,
each intimately connected with one of the viscera of
the body, and each manifesting its own
characteristic.
